Chukudu

2022 | Acrylic, Stretched on Wood Frame

Inspired by a visit to the city of Goma, DRC. The artist explains that he really loved the way Congolese people use traditional wooden bicycles to transport goods from one village to the city, and even from the city to villages. In contrast, in Rwanda, as opposed to using the wooden 'Chukudu,' people use bicycles. The artist marvelled at the fact that the Chukudu can carry significantly more things and weight than bicycles. He appreciates the unique aspects of daily life lived in different cities and cultures.
