2022 | Acrylic, Stretched on Wood Frame.
A song by Rugamba Sipriyani seeks to convince Rwandans that they have numerous reasons to defend their culture. This artwork combines the idealism of this song with inspiration drawn from Michelangelo’s ‘David’ statue. Biblically, despite David’s size, he fortified his people with a slingshot. Similarly, we as Rwandans need to rise above historical adversity and others’ preconceptions. The proportions between ear and head in the painting reflects an encouragement to listen and learn and be less concerned with what people say behind our back.
