The Party Day Kurigakondo
2024 | Mixed Media, Stretched on Wood Frame
Kurigakondo (The Party Day) captures a traditional Rwandan celebration, where people once gathered to celebrate their culture by sharing food and drinks with friends and neighbors. In this custom, individuals would carry inkangara (baskets) and ibibindi (gourds) on their heads while visiting friends, marking the occasion as a festive gathering.
This tradition was a way for relationships to grow and strengthen, as it brought people together in unity and joy. It’s through these communal moments that the well-known Rwandan proverb emerged: "Ifuni ibagara ubushuti ni akarenge"—meaning that true friendship is built through shared experiences and acts of kindness.
