In a Gele and Umushanana

This painting features a lady wearing both a West African Gele and an East African Umushanana. The Gele head tie is worn while attending special occasions, such as weddings. The Umushanana consists of a wrapped skirt bunched at the hips and a sash draped over one shoulder, and is the traditional ceremonial dress of women in Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda. This artwork seeks to inspire togetherness and love across the world by celebrating intercultural harmonies. This piece is part of the African Woman Headwraps collection.
