Child Playing In The Sand

This painting is based on a photo I took on the coast of Kenya. It must have been one of the brightest beaches I have ever been on. As a result, the contrast made between light and dark was spectacular. In this picture, a child is playing in the sand, and it is almost as though his shadow became his friend. Children can get completely absorbed in playing next to the ocean. At the same time, the ocean represents a harsh and dangerous context for such an innocent little body. I can only hope that each of these little bodies has the protection they require in such a setting.
