The Kinyarwanda proverb "akabura ntikaboneke ni nyina w'umuntu" translates to "that which is lost and never found again is a mother:” literally that a mother is irreplaceable. From pregnancy through childbirth and beyond, so often mothers bare great burdens in caring for their children. This is especially so for single mothers, or those partnered with irresponsible men. Despite the years of care giving, from infancy through adulthood, a mother loves her child a love like no other. Belange is a mash-up of the artist’s mother's name and her own. It is an honour to her mother and all mothers - alive or late.
