This is a portrait of the memorable Kigeli IV Rwabugiri, King of the Rwandan Kingdom in the late 19th century. This warrior king was the first king in Rwanda's history to come into contact with Europeans. During his reign, Rwanda was divided into provinces, districts, hills, and neighbourhoods, creating a standardized administration structure. Rwabugiri reigned from 1853 until his death in 1895.
