The Maasai are a Nilotic ethnic group inhabiting northern, central and southern Kenya and northern Tanzania. Their traditional dress shows many colors, with red being the most important, symbolizing courage, bravery, and strength. The Maasai believe that red scares off predators, like lions, even at long distances. Red also represents unity within the Maasai culture because livestock are slaughtered when communities come together in celebration.
